Case Study
Kings Cross
King’s Cross is a mixed-use, urban regeneration project in central London. Located on the site of former rail and industrial facilities, the 67-acre (27 ha) redevelopment is ongoing and involves restoration of historic buildings as well as new construction, with the entire plan organised around internal streets and 26 acres (10.5 ha) of open space to form a new public realm for the area.
Robert Evans, partner at Argent, said that “The vision was to create a scheme which would be part of London, a busy place with lots going on, somewhere that could always surprise. It would have all the things that any other successful district of the city would have.”
The Kings Cross Development is such an iconic regeneration project within London, so we thought it would be extremely useful to investigate and see if any ideas and concepts could can be brought to the Docks. However, the Kings Cross Development, for us and our vision, is set up, planned and constructed with different aspirations in mind, therefore transferable aspects are limited. Apartments are being sold for millions each and commercial property outweighs residential, both not the outcome we desire for the Docks.
