OUR PROPOSALS

For more information, hover over each map with your cursor.

Image 1 shows the site map which we propose. We aim to offer a large number of residential blocks, intertwined with open space, designated pedestrian and cycle paths, and a road network that connects all blocks but does not encourage car usage. The Millennium Mills building, and Silo D are connected through public access routes which bring together two iconic buildings on the site.

Both the Millennium Mills and Silo D buildings will undergo large scale refurbishment projects which will see a mix of uses for both buildings. Millennium Mills will have residential units, retail and commercial spaces, as well as community spaces for local organisations and initiatives. Silo D will have an exhibition centre available for hire from local residents and a historical centre which will act as an information centre for the site. The rest of space inside Silo D will be a rock-climbing and abseiling space, offering an alternative activity to water sports, which are popular within the Dock.

OUR SITE MAP

The density map shows where lower, medium and higher density areas will be. The light pink on the western boundary will be lower density housing split on three floors which will be in a similar layout to residential units on the neighbouring estate. The blocks coloured a light purple are medium density apartment buildings which will be larger two and three bedroom flats. The dark purple shows higher density blocks which will consist of one and two bedroom apartments from 8 to 12 floors. The red blocks, including Silo D will be buildings consisting of retail and commercial space. The orange building is the Millennium Mills building which will consist of a shopping parade on the ground floor with restaurants, commercial units and community spaces and residential apartments.

GREEN AND BLUE INFRASTRUCTURE

Image 3 shows the green and blue infrastructure on the site. Green and Blue infrastructure are of vital importance to the site due to the large body of water located within the middle. We plan to encourage use of the green and blue infrastructure by designing it in corridors which promote low speed modes of transport to the central hub, the Millennium Mills. There is more emphasis on slower modes of transport as we aim for the site to be well connected but discourage car usage.

PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE ROUTES

ROAD LAYOUT & PARKING PROVISION

Image 4 shows the road network that connects the eastern, western and southern boundaries but still does not pass the water boundary to the north or encourages car use through the entire site. We aimed for car usage to be kept to as low as possible, without taking away this transport option entirely.

Parking will be provided on the basement levels under each apartment block, with access along the road showed by the yellow line. There will be parking one space per 0.75 apartments. As well as this, parking will be allowed on the road for residents and visitors.
