Vision
“To enrich existing communities and create an innovative, sustainable and inclusive hub, bringing people closer to the docks and its heritage”
Approach to Community Engagement
Reflecting the Vision
The inclusion of "complementing existing communities" in Our Vision and our aim of creating an inclusive hub reflects the importance of integrating existing and new communtites together through the creation of new community spaces. Brining people together and creating a strong sense of place for the Docks should give the currently separate communties around the docks one uniting idenity.
As identified in the economic context, Newham is a varied borough where there is a number of young families currently experiencing varying degrees of poverty. As there is also a history of deprivation in the Docks it is essential that this regeneration is done in a way that it sympathetic to existing communities. This needs to be done in a way that keeps the community informed in the process before, during and after the regeneration takes place, not repeating the mistakes of the LDDC. Ideally it should also give the community a voice that has an influence over the form the regeneration takes. We aim to provide a stage for the community to air their concerns and allow members greater control over their Docks.
